This program focuses on reinforcing best practices in Central
Venous Access insertion. For the current inserter, this program
affords opportunities to enhance practical skills and knowledge. For
new inserters, it provides foundational knowledge required for inserting
CVCs. Subsequent validation of competencies is to be managed by
inserters’ individual practice settings. This program includes both a didactic and simulation skills lab. The skills lab will be precepted by a multi-disciplinary, clinical faculty of recognized experts in Central Venous Access. Instruction
is provided on ultrasound-guided vein assessment and access, hands-on simulation, and integration of evidence-based strategies to reduce the risk of complications, emphasizing Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infection (CLABSI).

*A few people have been asking if this course is right for them since "RNs can't place CVCs yet in FL"....Here is your answer: The Florida state scope of practice has not been expanded, but there are nurses who have taken this course and are placing CVCs in Florida. These individuals developed a policy and job description for their facilities. Each nurse in Florida has to petition the board on their behalf. Currently, CVC insertion is approved in every state except Florida and Alaska. It is time for a change! Let's be part the movement. It's coming...
