ULTRASOUND GUIDED PERIPHERAL VASCULAR ACCESS SIMULATION WORKSHOP (4 CEUs)

This 4 hour workshop will include both didactic and hands on simulation training. The ideal attendee is on a vascular access team or seeking the knowledge and skill to develop a team. The simulation training will include ultrasound assessment, needling techniques with use of ultrasound, arterial, venous peripheral device insertion. Attendees will rotate through hands on stations to gain awareness and procedural confidence. Stations will include leading the needle, RaPEVA assessment, Midline insertion, Extended dwell insertion and arterial catheter insertion.

Learning objectives: 

  • Demonstrate the use of ultrasound for vessel assessment 
  • Simulate device insertion for venous and arterial access
  • Describe leading the needle with use of ultrasound 
  • Describe when an extended dwell PIV would be used
