Best Practice Reprocessing for Ultrasound

**Molly Judge from Indiana University Health/INDIVAN will share her experience with incorporating HLD into her team’s practice/ Q&A

This program will explore the research documenting the patient infection risks associated with ultrasound probe use and learn how to incorporate federal guideline requirements into reprocessing workflow.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Analyze recent research documenting patient outbreaks and infection risks related to improper ultrasound probe reprocessing.
Identify federal guidelines (FDA and CDC) and the Spaulding classification system that define the disinfection requirements for ultrasound probes.
Describe the steps required for reprocessing ultrasound probes including cleaning, transport, disinfection, storage and traceability.
Identify factors that are important in the implementation of a high level disinfection workflow at a healthcare facility.
